A single office cabinet will almost certainly be bought but there are some very compelling reasons to consider hiring some other storage solutions rather than buying them outright. First of all, the requirements of large institutions can fluctuate from year to year. Schools, golf clubs, and swimming pools all need lockable storage for students and patrons but their needs may change over time. Being saddled with any kind of unnecessary furniture is an inconvenience and it can be difficult to sell the excess on in used condition.
Secondly, cleaning storage spaces can be a tremendous task. Some rental companies offer a regular annual cleaning and maintenance service as part of the standard price. For schools this is an excellent option, especially as the cleaning can usually be scheduled during a holiday period. Students can start the new year with a fresh, clean locker without anyone else’s mess or dirt in it.
The cost of buying outright will always be cheaper than renting, but rental costs can be spread over several years and be slotted into annual budgets with greater ease. Installation and removal are usually part of the deal and insurance against accidental damage and vandalism may also be available.
Some companies are also willing to rent storage space directly to students. In this case the school or fitness centre may not have to do anything more than find the corridor space. The lockers can be owned, maintained, and rented out by an external provider. That saves money and staff time, and reduces any financial risk.
